[Case Study] shaoli 65-Ton Trolley Electric Locomotives Successfully Deployed at a Mega Mining Complex in Mongolia
I.Project Background
Mongolia is exceptionally rich in mineral resources, yet its mining operations face the severe challenge of extreme winter conditions (with temperatures frequently plummeting to -35°C to -40°C), coupled with the grueling intensity of continuous heavy-load operations. A massive local open-pit and underground combined mining complex urgently required a fleet of rail transport equipment characterized by massive tractive effort, superior cold resistance, and low maintenance costs to shatter their production capacity bottlenecks.
II. The shaoli Solution
Tailored specifically to the unique operating conditions and track standards of this mining complex, we custom-engineered and successfully delivered a fleet of 65-Ton Trolley Electric Locomotives. To conquer Mongolia's brutal environment, this batch of locomotives underwent several core technological upgrades:
Extreme Cold-Resistant Design: The core electrical control cabinets, lubrication systems, piping, and braking mechanisms were all engineered using specialized low-temperature-resistant materials and advanced thermal insulation/heating technologies. This guarantees the equipment will not freeze or shut down, even in the harshest sub-zero environments.
Heavy-Load & Formidable Power: Equipped with high-power DC/AC traction motors and paired with an advanced adhesive weight distribution design, these locomotives effortlessly handle fully loaded, heavy-duty traction across complex and steep gradients within the mine.
Safe & Smooth Operation: Integrated with an IGBT variable frequency drive (VFD) speed control system and a dual "pneumatic + electrical" braking system. This configuration delivers incredibly smooth, impact-free startups and rapid emergency braking responses, maximizing operational safety.

III. Project Outcomes
Since being commissioned, this fleet of 65-ton Trolley Electric Locomotives has flawlessly withstood the ultimate test of Mongolia's severe winters. Not only has the equipment uptime (availability rate) remained consistently above 95%, but it has also empowered the mine to increase its daily ore haulage efficiency by approximately 20%. The client has highly commended the equipment for its ultra-low failure rate and exceptional heavy-load performance, and a preliminary agreement for a Phase II equipment procurement has already been reached.
